Project-idea

50 women from diverse countries will come together in Frankfurt on the Main (Germany) to meet for a common event of 8 days. They will experience an interesting program: getting trainings on aspects of girls-empowerment, taking part in local activities for girls, using open space to learn from each other, networking among each other as well as with professionals from all over Germany. The program will be developed according to the needs of the partner- organizations and participants (investigated in advance) as well as out of the knowledge and experience of the involved trainers (collected in former international projects). It will also include personal reflection of own life- experiences and attitudes towards gender-aspects as a base for professional work with girls. Finally all the participants will join a conference on the work with girls as well as building up networks and (international) future projects.

Motivation

The training takes into account:

  • the fact that girls experience disadvantages in all of the evolved countries (in different ways and intensity) and are confronted with gender-related stereotypes and patterns that keep them out of their full potential, power and creativity.
  • To contribute to the full integrity of girls (as different as they are) youth work can take more into account a critical view on gender-norms and images as well in society as in their own offers and concepts.
  • Girls have a need in empowerment to feel their own strength, get self-confident, prevent (sexual) violence, get more aware of their potentials and capacities, to connect with other girls and women in overcoming stereotypes and building up solidarity. Girls need empowerment to get enabled to create their own living conditions and to contribute to peaceful, creative and fair-minded communities.
  • Empowerment with girls is still not very well developed as an pedagogical approach in many of the evolved countries. Others are experienced but stay looking for inspiration, exchange and international perspectives.
  • Some of the partners as well as the coordinator are very experienced in empowerment with girls and want to share this knowledge with other women.
  • All involved participants are personal experts in their live as a woman and can transform this experiences into professional capacities by reflection and rising consciousness.

The targets are

  • Contributing to the empowerment for girls in the involved countries
  • Building up professional capacities and skills to work on empowerment with girls.
  • Increasing the quality of youth work by establishing a gender-related perspective towards the circumstances and needs of girls
  • Supporting the development and establishing of pedagogical work with girls focused on empowerment in the evolved countries.
  • Informing and training about successful tools and instruments in the work with girls
  • Exchanging experiences and best practice on the subject of girls empowerment
  • Building up a strong network and international understanding among women who work on empowerment for girls between countries of Europe, North Africa and the Middle East

Participants

About 50 women as delegates from different partner-organizations: 25 women from MENA-countries (Egypt, Tunisia), 25 women from European countries (including Turkey).
Partners are NGOs or governmental organizations working in the field of youth or women empower-ment with experiences in empowerment for girls (or at least a strong motivation to build it up).
The participants will be women who work/want to work with young girls on empowerment. They are either active in youth work or in women organizations. They should have a strong motivation to contribute to equal rights for women/girls and to overcome gender-stereotypes and (sexual) violence against women. Participants should be willing to reflect their own attitude towards gender-issues and to be open minded towards women from different cultural and religious background.
